Take me by the hand, I beg You,
and lead me through the wastelands of life.
Show me mercy by pointing the way,
that I may not go astray,
that I may see the dawning light.
The roads of men are crooked,
only You can make them straight.
So have mercy, Most Holy Maiden!
Take me by the hand like a blind man.
Lead me, O Lady!
That I may not go astray,
that I may see the dawning light.
Our roads are built of crosses,
of our own making —
signs of our folly.
We raise barricades upon them
and flee before their sight.
O Most Holy Virgin!
Do You see my wretchedness?
What have we become?
Blind wanderers,
upon the wastelands of the world.
In darkness we see no path,
we cover our eyes with lies,
crying out: God is with us! —
not seeing that we offend Your Son
with our blasphemies.
O Most Radiant Lady!
Lead us out of the darkness.
Show us the way,
that we may become
Your slaves forever!
