I’m writing a letter to You, Lord,
that’s all that will be left of me.
It’s not a letter of goodbye,
just a short summary —
what I gained, what I lost,
when I took a wrong turn,
when I left the straight road behind.
When did I miss the signs,
and rush straight into the abyss?
No, I’m not crying over my own foolishness.
I’m looking for the days
that joined me with You.
I’m searching for the happy moments
that paved my way back home —
when loneliness and rejection
became the signs of union with You.
Looking back, You see where you stand,
and whether you’re straightening your ways.
You can’t fix your mistakes
by repeating them again and again.
So I’m writing this letter to You,
to know where I am —
how far from the uphill road,
paved with my sins,
but marked also by my good deeds.
I’m writing this letter to You,
hoping that my faith
will beg Your forgiveness.
